Software Engineer II - Rust - Pro

About the role

Kraken, founded in 2011 and trusted by over 10 million users worldwide, is looking for a Software Engineer II in Rust within its Pro team. The Pro team owns the trading backend services such as the matching engine, market data gateways, internal and external APIs and other trading services, and works globally in an agile way with Rust and C++. The role focuses on reliability, performance and user impact.

Key responsibilities

• Design and implement robust Rust and C++ services and libraries that power trading, payments and crypto experiences.
• Write reusable, testable and highly efficient code that scales across teams and supports revenue-critical systems without compromising safety or security.
• Contribute to large-scale distributed systems architecture, turning product requirements into resilient, low-latency solutions.
• Work alongside hundreds of experienced Rust and C++ engineers in a product-driven engineering culture.

Required profile

• 3+ years of software engineering experience.
• Experience building financial trading focused products.
• Ability to debug issues autonomously across OS, network and application layers.
• Security-first mindset in system design and end-to-end ownership of systems and libraries.

Required skills

• Network services or asynchronous code in Rust.
• Modern C++ for performance-sensitive, low-latency systems.
• Distributed systems knowledge, including RPC protocols, Kafka and event-driven architectures.
