Senior Software Engineer

About the role

Planet is looking for a Senior Software Engineer to join its Platform team, building and operating large‑scale services that give customers access to daily and high‑resolution satellite imagery. The role is hybrid, based in Ljubljana three days a week, and works across distributed teams in Europe and North America.

Key responsibilities

• Design, develop, and maintain high‑performance APIs and services using Go, Java and/or Python.
• Collaborate with product managers and engineers across multiple teams to align goals and deliver features.
• Write clean, observable, and well‑documented production code and participate in code reviews.
• Own the operation of services through SRE practices: performance monitoring, load testing, alerts, dashboards, runbooks, and incident response.
• Participate in on‑call rotation to support internal and external services.

Required profile

• 6+ years of software development experience in a production environment.
• Strong teamwork and communication skills across time zones.
• Bachelor’s degree in a technical field or equivalent practical experience.
• Ability to learn new technologies quickly and work in ambiguous problem spaces.
