Principal Engineer

About the role

Moneyhub is a data and payments company providing ISO 27001-certified software for Open Banking, Open Finance and Open Data, with an FCA-regulated platform used by hundreds of organisations. It is seeking an experienced Principal Engineer, an individual contributor with no line management, who has shipped products to real users and wants to keep writing code. The team is about 40 software, platform, data engineers and data scientists and uses Shape Up.

Key responsibilities

• Ship a committed piece of work to production within the first three months, and propose two or three platform improvements
• Own a project from prototype to production, such as redesigning part of an event processing or data pipeline to handle more load more reliably
• Show the team the agentic engineering workflows that work for you and turn them into patterns adopted by other teams
• Deliver visible, shared work that points to business needs, with a mix of committed bets and explorations

Required profile

• Experience at several startups and on systems at real scale, shipping software that people used
• A track record of building and running production software across different companies and codebases, including the years after launch
• Ability to set technical direction without authority and to find bottlenecks with profilers and flame charts
• Hands-on, staying close to the code; able to work with data scientists and judge models (precision, recall, F1)
• Uses agentic tools daily and can make the case for work worth doing
• Sound judgement on security, privacy and client trust in regulated financial software
• Nice to have: open banking, connections or identity systems experience
