Lead DevOps Engineer - Remote

About the role

A company operating a mission-critical data pipeline used by major US banks is looking for an experienced Lead DevOps Engineer to direct its DevOps team, modernize its cloud infrastructure and take full architectural ownership of its deployment ecosystem. The position is fully remote, with a required daily core overlap from 4:00 PM to 7:00 PM Belgrade time.

Key responsibilities

• Lead, mentor and direct the daily technical work of the DevOps team, setting technical benchmarks and best practices.
• Lead the architectural overhaul and migration of legacy pipelines from TeamCity to modern workflows using AWS CodePipeline and GitHub Actions.
• Architect and execute migrations from AWS ECS to AWS EKS, optimizing performance, scalability and cost.
• Design, implement and maintain internal "Terraform as a Service" workflows and reusable modules for self-service infrastructure.
• Design and maintain deployment strategies such as blue/green and canary to ensure zero-downtime releases.
• Work with software engineering and data teams to optimize deployment workflows and support high-throughput data pipelines.

Required profile

• Minimum 5+ years of hands-on experience managing and architecting infrastructure on AWS (EKS, ECS, EC2, VPC, IAM, RDS, CloudWatch).
• Minimum 3+ years as a tech lead managing a DevOps, Platform or SRE team.
• Deep production experience with AWS EKS and demonstrated migration from ECS to EKS.
• Extensive experience building and migrating CI/CD pipelines from legacy tools to GitHub Actions and AWS CodePipeline.
• Availability for daily overlap 4:00 PM to 7:00 PM Belgrade time.

Required skills

• Terraform, including modular infrastructure and self-service platform design.
• AWS services: EKS, ECS, EC2, VPC, IAM, RDS, CloudWatch.
• CI/CD tooling: GitHub Actions, AWS CodePipeline.
• Nice to have: GitOps (ArgoCD), Python, Go or Bash scripting, and familiarity with financial sector security and compliance standards.
