Head of Mechanical Design - In-Wheel Electric Motors

About the role

Elaphe develops in-wheel propulsion and control systems, as well as advanced algorithms and control electronics for electric vehicle dynamics. It is looking for an experienced professional to lead its mechanical design team, overseeing the development of mechanical components and assemblies for in-wheel electric motors, from concept and validation through to industrialization.

Key responsibilities

• Lead the mechanical design department, including work organization, resource allocation and prioritization.
• Lead, mentor and develop a team of mechanical design engineers, including participation in recruitment and team development.
• Take technical ownership of the mechanical design of electric motor components and assemblies, from concept and architecture through validation and series production.
• Lead design reviews and make key technical decisions.
• Establish and maintain engineering standards, methodologies and design best practices (CAD, tolerancing, DFM/DFA, material selection).
• Oversee analytical calculations and finite element simulations (FEM) to ensure structural integrity and component reliability.
• Plan departmental capacity and monitor development timelines and costs with project managers.
• Support prototyping and the transfer of designs into production, working with the prototype workshop, manufacturing engineering teams and suppliers.
• Represent the department in technical discussions with OEM customers and partners.

Required profile

• University degree in Mechanical Engineering (Bachelor's or Master's) or equivalent international industry experience.
• At least 8 years of experience in mechanical product design, preferably in electric motor development or the automotive industry.
• Proactive, goal-oriented, with strong ownership, collaboration and leadership skills, and excellent English.

• CAD tools (SolidWorks and CATIA)
• PDM and ERP systems
• Understanding of manufacturing technologies and assembly processes, including casting, sheet metal forming and CNC machining
