Engineering Manager – Ubuntu Package Management

About the role

As an Engineering Manager you will lead a team responsible for the technologies that underpin software management and system lifecycle experiences across Ubuntu. You will combine technical leadership with people management, shaping engineering direction while supporting the growth and development of experienced engineers.

Key responsibilities

• Define technical vision and roadmap for package management and system lifecycle technologies.
• Participate in design reviews and guide architecture decisions for updates, drivers, firmware and related infrastructure.
• Promote high standards for performance, reliability, security and maintainability.
• Lead and mentor a team of experienced engineers, fostering ownership and continuous improvement.
• Collaborate with desktop, server, security, release engineering, product and OEM teams worldwide.

Required profile

• Strong academic background in Computer Science or related STEM field, or equivalent professional experience.
• Proven experience leading engineering teams, including coaching, performance development and talent growth.
• Extensive experience with Linux distribution technologies, package management systems or software distribution infrastructure.
• Understanding of release engineering processes and operating system architecture.
• Excellent communication skills and ability to work in a globally distributed organization.
