Category Manager – Retail Operations

About the role

Shell is looking for an experienced Category Manager in its Retail Operations group in Ljubljana, Slovenia. The role covers managing categories, including promotional agenda, suppliers, planogram, customer value proposition (CVP) execution and portfolio, and combines elements of supply chain, category management, marketing, analysis, project work and operations. It aims to understand customer needs and fast-changing consumer habits and grow the category to deliver incremental value and sales growth.

Key responsibilities

• Manage commercial budgets, including revenue streams, operational expenditure, margin and supplier income, and manage the OPEX budget to maximise value for money
• Develop category plans, monitor performance and intervene when timelines are missed, and resolve under-performance
• Negotiate yearly and long-term supplier agreements, rebates and trading terms, and build supplier partnerships on promotions, product launches and range maintenance
• Analyse shop sales, category and consumer behaviour, produce full PIRs on large promotions and advise on format rollout of planograms
• Monitor competitors and propose competitive responses, and work with other Category Managers and marketing departments to deliver the overall strategy
• Support CVP and customer communications with the brand team, and interface with retailers, district business partners, territory managers, audit agencies and the marketing department on compliance, pricing and promotions
• Lead the development of sustainability concepts for fast food and hot beverages, and drive the sustainability agenda across the NFR department

Required profile

• Bachelor's degree with at least 3 years of relevant experience, preferably in retail
• Full understanding of the retail business
• Track record of delivering sales growth and incremental value
• Fluency in English and a driving licence
