Principal Engineer (Individual Contributor)

About the role

Moneyhub is a data and payments company providing ISO 27001-certified software for Open Banking, Open Finance and Open Data, with an FCA-regulated platform. It is looking for an experienced Principal Engineer who has shipped products to real users and still writes code, working as an individual contributor with no line management.

Key responsibilities

• Ship committed work to production within the first three months, and propose two or three platform improvements
• Own a project from prototype to production, such as redesigning part of an event processing or data pipeline
• Show the team the agentic engineering workflows that work, and turn them into patterns adopted by other teams
• Work within the Shape Up framework, shaping bets and delivering committed work
• Keep work visible, share it with colleagues and point it at business needs

Required profile

• Experience at several startups and on systems at real scale, shipping software that people used
• A track record of running software in production across different companies and codebases
• Ability to set technical direction without authority and to find bottlenecks with profilers and flame charts
• Hands-on, staying close to the code; able to work with data scientists
• Sound judgement on security, privacy and client trust in regulated financial software
• Nice to have: open banking, connections or identity systems experience

Required skills

• Python, Node.js, React and Rust, plus data science; no need to be an expert in each
• Platform stack: TypeScript on Node, Kafka, Postgres, Kubernetes on AWS
• Agentic engineering tools used daily
