Mid-Senior AI Engineer

About the role

We are looking for a Mid‑Senior AI Engineer to join the AI Engineering team within Zurich Customer Active Management (ZCAM) in Ljubljana. You will help design, build and operate enterprise‑grade GenAI products that improve decision‑making, automate processes and enhance customer and employee experiences.

Key responsibilities

• Design, develop and operationalise GenAI applications such as conversational assistants, copilots and AI‑powered business tools.
• Create intelligent document‑processing pipelines using NLP, information extraction and GenAI to structure unstructured content.
• Build AI‑driven automation workflows and smart intake solutions that route, validate and process business information.
• Integrate large language models and AI APIs into enterprise applications to provide decision support.
• Develop retrieval‑augmented generation (RAG) systems and enterprise search solutions over structured and unstructured data.
• Implement guardrails, evaluation frameworks and monitoring to ensure safe and reliable AI behaviour.
• Support deployment, scaling and lifecycle management of production AI solutions in cloud environments.
• Collaborate with data engineers, data scientists, architects and business stakeholders.

Required profile

• Minimum 3 years of experience in software engineering, data engineering, machine‑learning engineering or related roles.
• Strong programming skills in Python and solid knowledge of SQL.
• Hands‑on experience delivering AI‑powered solutions in production, especially NLP, machine learning or GenAI.
• Understanding of LLM application development, prompt engineering and orchestration patterns.
• Experience with vector databases and embedding‑based retrieval for semantic search and RAG.
