Youth School Success Specialist

About the role

The Youth School Success Specialist supports school‑aged refugee youth and their families as they adjust to new educational environments. Working within the Student Support Team, the specialist helps deliver the Newcomer Youth Summer Academy and promotes social‑emotional development, program engagement, and access to community resources.

Key responsibilities

• Outreach to families, confirming attendance and coordinating translation of materials.
• Enroll new students in the Academy and parents in ESOL classes, ensuring compliance with IRC policies.
• Conduct behavioral observations, develop and implement behavior plans for high‑need students.
• Provide individual and group behavioral interventions under supervision.
• Collect and compile data for Tier II and Tier III services and monitor student progress.
• Deliver crisis intervention and de‑escalation support when urgent issues arise.
• Coordinate school enrollment, meal registration, placement testing, immunizations, and after‑school program sign‑ups.
• Secure interpretation services and refer families to community‑based mental health and enrichment programs.
• Plan and lead Social‑Emotional Learning (SEL) and affinity group sessions.

Required profile

• Passionate about supporting refugee youth and their families.
• Experience working with school‑aged children in a humanitarian or educational setting.
• Strong organizational skills and ability to manage multiple tasks simultaneously.
• Comfortable conducting behavioral observations and implementing interventions.
• Ability to collaborate with teachers, counselors, and community partners.
