Software Engineer – Cloud & Geospatial Platform

About the role

Planet is looking for a Software Engineer to join its Platform team, building and operating large‑scale services that give customers access to daily satellite imagery and derived products. The role is full‑time, hybrid and based in Ljubljana, working closely with distributed teams across Europe and North America.

Key responsibilities

• Design, develop, and maintain high‑performance APIs and services in Go, Java and/or Python.
• Collaborate with product managers and engineers to align goals and deliver customer‑focused features.
• Write clean, observable, and well‑documented production code and participate in code reviews.
• Own the operation of services using SRE practices: monitoring, alerting, load testing, runbooks, and on‑call support.
• Leverage AI tooling throughout the development lifecycle while maintaining quality standards.

Required profile

• 4+ years of software development experience in a production environment.
• Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Geosciences or related field, or equivalent practical experience.
• Strong teamwork, communication, and ability to work asynchronously across time zones.
• Experience with cloud platforms (GCP or AWS) and container orchestration (Kubernetes).
