Senior Optical Engineer / Applied Physicist

About the role

We are seeking a hands‑on Senior Optical Engineer / Applied Physicist to drive the development of advanced optical fibers, components and measurement systems. The role blends deep knowledge of optics and photonics with experimental laboratory work, collaborating across R&D, manufacturing, quality and product management to turn concepts into reliable products.

Key responsibilities

• Design, develop and optimise optical fibers, components and free‑space optical systems using both simulation and experimental methods.
• Plan and execute experiments that address clear technical questions, compare results with theoretical models and guide further development.
• Build, align and troubleshoot free‑space optical setups, ensuring stability and performance.
• Create laboratory and production measurement methods, test rigs and automated data‑collection software.
• Develop software tools for instrument control, data analysis and reporting (Python, MATLAB, LabVIEW, C++/C#).
• Investigate performance issues in development and manufacturing, propose and implement practical improvements.
• Support technology transfer from R&D to production, contributing to design reviews, test strategies and technical specifications.
• Document work clearly and share knowledge with cross‑functional teams.

Required profile

• Master’s degree or PhD in Physics, Optical Engineering, Photonics, Electrical Engineering or a related discipline.
• Strong hands‑on experience with optics and photonics, including free‑space system alignment and measurement.
• Proven ability to plan experiments, evaluate data quality and draw sound technical conclusions.
• Excellent written and spoken English and a collaborative, problem‑solving attitude.
