Mechanical Design Engineer (R&D)

About the role

This R&D Mechanical Design Engineer delivers the mechanical design and its own decisions so that next-generation products meet their launch schedules and product and marketing requirements. The role works closely with electrical and thermal engineers, product managers, designers, manufacturers and suppliers.

Key responsibilities

• Provide creative solutions for simple to complex engineering and schedule items.
• Collaborate with cross-functional teams and report project status, risks and change control.
• Manage issue troubleshooting and resolution for mechanical components, and prioritize deliverables against scheduling and resource constraints.
• Support DVT, OOBE and regulatory team efforts, and provide inputs to the mechanical part of the component program budget and schedule.
• Assist with cost reduction programs, product testing and validation, and create or review EE CAD, BOM and DFM inputs.
• Support exit meetings, core team meetings and escalations.

Required profile

• Bachelor's degree in engineering or relevant experience.
• 3+ years of industry experience.
• Direct experience in mechanical construction design, including sheet metal and polymer injection molding design.

Required skills

• Advanced 3D CAD (SolidWorks or similar) and advanced assembly drawing skills.
• Good knowledge of DFM, thermodynamics, heat transfer and polymer materials.
• Engineering analysis, development and documentation.
• Ability to validate designs, develop patentable ideas and work on multiple parallel projects.
• PDM/PLM, SolidWorks Simulation (FEM), Python and project management experience are a plus.
