Design Engineer – Water Infrastructure and Utilities

About the role

An established engineering design firm (projektantski biro) specialising in water engineering, with offices in Ljubljana and Celje, is looking for a Design Engineer for Water Infrastructure and Utilities. Depending on experience, you will join one of four specialist teams: hydraulic engineering, water infrastructure, municipal utilities or rehabilitation. The main objective is to prepare design documentation for water-related projects, from the project brief and conceptual design through to detailed design for construction and as-built documentation, including public procurement projects.

The work is predominantly office-based, with site visits at the start of each project and later for checks during construction. You will work with investors and clients such as municipalities, state institutions, watercourse managers and industrial companies, and can develop into a Project Manager role.

Key responsibilities

• Prepare design documentation at all stages: conceptual design (IDZ), preliminary design (IDP), building permit design (DGD), detailed design for construction (PZI) and as-built documentation (PID)
• Design watercourse and channel regulation, riverbank protection and watercourse diversions
• Design municipal infrastructure (water supply and sewerage systems)
• Carry out hydraulic analyses and prepare flood maps
• Prepare studies, specialist reports, technical reports and drawings
• Prepare bills of quantities with preliminary measurements and cost estimates
• Prepare design documentation for public tenders and contribute to bids and project briefs
• Work with investors, attend client meetings and guide colleagues within the project team
• Coordinate with other disciplines and carry out site inspections and designer's supervision during construction

Required profile

• At least 5 years of design experience in water infrastructure, hydraulic engineering or municipal utilities
• University or master's degree in civil engineering (hydraulic, municipal, water and municipal or environmental civil engineering)
• Authorised Civil Engineer certificate from the Slovenian Chamber of Engineers (IZS) is desirable
• Category B driving licence

Required skills

• Knowledge of construction legislation and technical regulations (Construction Act, Waters Act)
• Proficiency in AutoCAD, Civil 3D, HEC-RAS and GIS tools
• Understanding of geodetic surveys and geological reports
• Accuracy, independence, accountability, good communication and a team-oriented approach
